History
Founded in 1864 just a few years after the city of Denver itself
was founded the University of Denver is one of the country's premier private
universities.
The University's 125-acre campus, a few miles south of downtown
Denver, are home to more than 11,500 students hailing from all regions of the
United States and 83 other countries.
A practicing Methodist,
Evans believed that Christianity was intricately linked to education and that
education was directly responsible for developing strong character. As he
sought financial and moral support for the Colorado Seminary, he turned to his
fellow churchmen, several of whom became trustees of the fledgling institution.
Today,
the University's vision, values, mission
and goals complement the principles and traditions of the Methodist
Church. In keeping with this legacy, the University of Denver welcomes students
and employees of all faiths and backgrounds.
The University offers:
·
# More than 100 undergraduate programs of study.
·
# More than 120 graduate and professional programs.
Regardless of what they study, University of Denver students
embark on a personal educational journey that helps them finds and follow their
individual purpose.
Vision
The
University of Denver will be a great private university dedicated to the public
good.
Mission
The
mission of the University of Denver is to promote learning by engaging with
students in advancing scholarly inquiry, cultivating critical and creative
thought and generating knowledge. Our active partnerships with local and global
communities contribute to a sustainable common good.
Experiential Learning
Our students work closely with faculty, peers
and members of the community on projects, research and fieldwork. They cross
disciplines to discover new perspectives and approaches to problem solving.
In and out of the classroom, our students learn
by doing, whether they're collecting data in the field or putting theory into
practice in a clinical setting.
Locally & Globally
Not only do we work to improve our immediate community, but we
send our students and faculty abroad for study and research with wide-ranging
impact. Just as important, we welcome students and faculty from all over the
world to bring new ideas and insights to our campus.
Through local and international service learning programs, our
students have worked alongside communities everywhere from downtown Denver to
Africa, Europe, Asia and beyond. Research led by our faculty and students has
made a tangible difference in a huge range of fields, generating new medical
technologies, environmental safeguards, archaeological discoveries and much
more.
But the most significant impact the University has is through its
alumni. When they leave here, University of Denver students go on to make
meaningful and lasting contributions to their professions and their
communities.
Research & Innovation
At the University of Denver, research has a
concrete purpose. When our faculty and students work in the library or the lab,
they keep an eye on the role their work will play in the world. How will it
improve people's lives? How will it enhance our understanding? How can it be
used to ensure a better future?
Our faculty led the
University community, dedicating themselves to creative, pioneering
scholarship. And first-rate scholars collaborate across disciplines in our
centers and institutes, which are dedicated to finding real solutions.
But research doesn't
end with our professors. We encourage our graduate students and even our
undergraduates to perform original scholarship. Working together closely with
faculty members, DU students follow their individual passions to places no one
has gone before them.
Regardless of what you
want to explore or what you want to create, we have the experience, facilities
and resources to help you get there.
